The Nightmare Before Christmas Dessert Bar

I have this theory. You want to hear it?

I think that the only way to make a great thing better is to have it when you’re not supposed to. Like cupcakes for breakfast. Or Christmas in July.

But you know what? “Christmas in July” is the only misplaced holiday that’s gained any kind of following. That’s a total shame, and it needs to be rectified.

The most observant of you might notice that this post, written here in December in the thick of the holiday hustle, is tagged with “Halloween.” Yep, that’s right. We’re doing Halloween at Christmas this year.

How does one celebrate Halloween at Christmas? With a murder mystery party of course! We’ll be downloading this murder-mystery party kit from NightofMystery.com. It’s called Ho Ho Homicide. Their party kits give you tons of printable goodies, including character dossiers and pieces of evidence, to host a murder mystery party of your own.

And, of course, you need one more thing: A delicious dessert bar featuring the unofficial film of Halloween-at-Christmas, The Nightmare Before Christmas. So here it is: A DIY Christmas nightmare dessert table, with five different treats inspired by the characters and stories in the movie.

All of the treats are very straightforward and just creatively named, like Sally Hair Strings (Twizzlers), Oogie Boogie Guts (gummy worms and gummy cherries), Zero Kibble (trail mix), Christmastown Spirits (peppermint milkshakes) and Jack Skellington Cupcakes (a simple butter cake with buttercream frosting).

Like it? Like it so much you want to recreate it? Lucky for you, I’ve got a few tutorials:

>> Jack Skellington Fondant Cupcake Toppers

I would also like to know about the place cards…so cute. I’m having a “Jack” birthday party for my daughter next week and would love these!
