Icao Climate Agreement

To minimize the negative effects of international civil aviation on the global climate, ICAO formulates strategies, develops and updates recommended standards and practices for aircraft emissions, and conducts communications activities. These activities are carried out by the secretariat and the Aviation and Environment Committee (CAEP). To continue its activities, ICAO is also cooperating with other United Nations bodies and international organizations. ICAO is also studying the feasibility of a long-term global goal for international air transport, as requested by the 40th session of the ICAO Assembly (reference: Resolution A40-18 of the ICAO Assembly, at para. 9). In order to achieve global targets and promote sustainable growth in international aviation, ICAO is committed to implementing a package of measures that includes improvements in aviation technology, operational improvements, sustainable air fuels and market-based measures (CORSIA). At its 40th session in 2019, the ICAO Assembly adopted Resolution A40-18: Consolidated Statement on the Continuation of ICAO`s Environmental Protection Policies and Practices – Climate Change. He reaffirmed the two global targets for the international aviation sector, namely to improve 2% of energy efficiency each year by 2050 and achieve carbon-neutral growth from 2020, as was the case at the 37th edition.
