Easy Three-Ingredient Orange Cream Popsicles

You know those crazy hipster kids who are all like, “I liked that band before they were cool”? I’m totally about to be one of them.

The King of Pops is a mobile popsicle stand, making sweaty summer bodies happy by selling gourmet popsicles all over Atlanta’s streets. It rose to a quick fame over the past few years—and has spread around to nearby cities like Athens, Asheville and Charleston. Of course, I was a big fan before it was cool. Ahem.

I suspect that the reason it took off is the same reason that drew me in from the very beginning: crazy foodie flavors like Apple Spinach Ginger, Coconut Lemongrass and Cucumber Habanero. They’re all crazy delicious, and they’ve been inspiring me to try my hand at gourmet pops.

But before I could ever tackle any of those royal combinations, I needed to get familiar with the classics. I knew I wanted to craft some basic at-home frozen bites of my own, but I didn’t know where to start…

…until I found this:

It’s an Orange Cream Pop Mix and it was on sale at Williams-Sonoma for an unheard-of $1.99 (seriously, I don’t even think the toothpicks there are that cheap).

The best part is that there was a super-easy recipe for making pops on the back. The even better part is that I only needed two more ingredients: cream and whole milk.

The prep was super easy, too. Just pour the ingredients in a bowl and whisk ’em together.

Then, you pour the mixture into a popsicle mold and pop the pops in the freezer. That’s it!

Well, you have to serve and eat them too. I love the idea of serving popsicles—even store-bought ones—over ice. They look way more mouthwatering outside of those individual plastic wrappers.

Om nom nom.

The next time you’re looking for an easy dessert for a summertime party, try popsicles. Now that products like the Zoku pop maker are super popular, you can find easy mixes like this one for sale all over.

You can prep the popsicle mixes and pour them into any mold, like my cheap-o plastic mold or even just a bunch of paper Dixie cups. I mean really, you could mold your popsicles in plastic baggies and everyone will still crawl over each other to get one. They’re that good.

I love popsicles. But I want to make large batches and can’t seem to find a source for those skinny paper bags. Any help?

I literally googled “orange creamsicle recipe” several weeks ago and wasn’t able to find anything satisfying. Thanks for the tip! Hopefully I can track down a bottle of the Williams-Sonoma mix.
